EURACSIS News
First EURACSIS meeting held in Brussels

Twenty out of the twenty-six EURACSIS members gathered in Brussels on 12 and 13 January 2012 in the network's first meeting, hosted by PRACSIS.
The EURACSIS partners outlined their activities, exchanged experiences and presented their vision. In addition to extensive discussions and networking, the group had the opportunity to visit the iconic European Commission headquarters, in order to meet with EU officials.
The success of the meeting was sealed by the group's determination to organise regular meetings!
Cyprus agency is moving

Gnora, the Euracsis agency in Cyprus, has moved to new premises. The address has now become:

PRACSIS organised the opening ceremony of the Hamburg's 'Train of Ideas' exhibition

Hamburg's 'Train of Ideas' arrived in Brussels on 7 September 2011. The train is part of Hamburg's activities as the 2011 European Green Capital and includes the exhibition: 'Visions for the cities of the future'. It showcases the challenges of designing cities that are sustainable, environmentally-friendly and attractive to live in. PRACSIS organised the official opening ceremony in the presence of the European Commissioner for Environment, Janez Potočnik, Hamburg's Senator for Urban Development and Environment, Jutta Blankau, and Brussels' Minister for Environment, Energy and Urban Renovation, Evelyne Huytebroeck. .

Green Week satellite conference "Uso efficiente delle risorse - esperienze a confronto", Rome, IT, 2011, by Studio Pesaro and PRACSIS

On 19 May 2011, the European Commission Representation in Italy, in collaboration with PRACSIS and the local EURACSIS agency Studio Pesaro, organised for the first time in its premises, a one-day conference on resource efficiency. Over 115 participants took part in this successful event which started with an update of European and Italian Institutions' "green" achievements. This conference continued with the presentation of best practices and virtuous strategies for the efficient use of natural resources and participants were also invited to take part in a "showcase" activity, to distribute information materials, as well as to exchange contacts and networking.

Birmingham ETAP Forum highlights commercial opportunities for eco-innovation in a resource-efficient European economy, by PRACSIS

The 10th European Forum on Eco-Innovation in Birmingham in March 2011 focused on the crucial role of eco-innovation in driving a resource-efficient European economy. It examined the need for resource efficiency in a world of overconsumption, reviewed actions already being taken by business and associations that recognise and support the commercial opportunities offered by resource efficiency and assessed the need to stimulate global demand for resource-efficient products and services, including influencing customer behaviour. Some 240 high-level stakeholders from business, academia, policymaking and green groups attended the Birmingham event, part of the EU Environmental Technology Action Plan (ETAP).
PRACSIS has supported the development of the agenda and executed PR strategies to promote the forum throughout specific audiences and media. Its team organised all logistical aspect of the forum. Appointed by the European Commission, PRACSIS is managing the Secretariat of the European Forum on Eco-Innovation since 2007.

Green week satellite conference "Uso eficiente de los Recursos, gastar menos, vivir mejor", Madrid, ES, 2011, by Clave 2

In Madrid, Pracsis and Clave 2, member of EURACSIS network, organised a Green Week event at the Spanish European Commission Representation on 20 May 2011. It was an interesting conference analysing the impact of the bad use of resources, the actions that are being taken to improve this now and what can be done in the future from different perspectives of the main actors involved. The conference included 3 categories of speakers. The first group of speakers represented the public administration, the second group of speakers represented the industry, the consumers and commerce, and more specifically the domestic appliance and automotive sectors and finally the third group was formed by different NGOs. All the presentations were followed by questions and debates. TVE1, the most important Spanish TV channel and Agencia EFE, the most important Spanish press agency were there to cover the event which gathered around 80 participants.

LIFE+ conference in Brussels (BE, 2011) by PRACSIS

In May 2011 PRACSIS organised a two-day conference bringing together the LIFE+ main representatives from all 27 EU Member States. Over 230 participants took part in the discussions on the achievements and the future of the LIFE programme. The event was organised within the European Parliament premises in Brussels, Belgium.

On 17 May 2011, We Love Kreativ, the Hungarian EURACSIS agency organised a Green Week conference in Budapest. Over 50 participants from government institutions, business and industry, non-governmental organisations and academia gathered in the premises of the Representation of the European Commission in Hungary - Európa Pont - to discuss resource efficiency. Eva Hartai (University of Miskolc), Tibor Faragó (St. Istvan University) and Alexa Botár (Friends of the Earth Hungary) gave presentations on "Natural resource use in the policy context", followed by lectures on "Towards a Resource Efficient Europe" by Robert Konrad (Directorate-General for Environment, European Commission), Erzsébet Gergely (Ministry of Rural Development, Hungary), Maarten ten Houten (Philips Lighting) and Tibor Kiss (University of Pécs). Mr Kiss' presentation, which focused on "Green economy vs Blue Economy" generated an exciting debate among the presenters and the audience. After a locally grown, seasonal raw bio lunch, András Lukács (Clean Air Action Group), Shaun Chamberlin (The Lean Economy Connection) and Ivan Gyulai (Ecological Institute for Sustainable Development) gave lectures on "Introducing limits in a limited world". A lively Q&A session followed, and the day ended with a "Panel discussion on a sustainable Europe" featuring Ivan Gyulai, Erzsébet Gergely, Maarten ten Houten and Prof. János Mika (Hungarian Academy of Sciences), as well as members of the public.
Green week satellite conference "Nichts geht ohne Wasser – Hamburgs lebenswichtige Ressource", Hamburg, DE, 2011, by C&C

Around 100 participants gathered in the international maritime museum of Hamburg on 13 May 2011 to take part in the panel discussion entitled „Nichts geht ohne Wasser – Hamburgs lebenswichtige Ressource” ("Nothing works without water – the vital resource of Hamburg").
After an opening speech by Karl Falkenberg, Director-General of DG Environment, the moderator led a very lively panel discussion on the subject of water in Hamburg. The panel was composed of Holger Lange (Authority for Urban Development and Environment of the Free and Hanseatic City Hamburg), Dr. Michael Beckereit (Hamburg Wasser), Prof. Dr. Michael Braungart (EPEA Internationale Umweltforschung GmbH), Alexander Porschke (NABU Hamburg) and Gabriella Krempels-Muranyine (Ministry for Rural Development in Hungary).
ManagEnergy present at the 2011 EC Open Door Day in Brussels!

Every year the European Commission opens up its doors to the public to celebrate the Europe Day (9 May). This year was not an exception and on the Open Door Day, Saturday 7 May, over 20 000 citizens visited the main Commission building (Berlaymont). PRACSIS organised there the stand of ManagEnergy which was among the European Commission initiatives with a strong presence during the day.
Hundreds of people, primarily families with children, had the opportunity to be informed about and try out live ManagEnergy’s Education Corner. Children from 7 to 11 years old and teenagers from 12 to 16 years old played online games, downloaded applications and were informed about the importance of sustainable energy in everyday life!
The Open Door Day was an excellent occasion to illustrate the breadth of services ManagEnergy offers that range from technical capacity building workshops for experts to interactive and enjoyable computer games for children!

Finnish agency Mailand joins Euracsis

The Finnish brand and PR agency Mailand Communications has recently joined Euracsis network. Now the network covers all 27 EU countries. Mailand was founded in 2007 and it is based in Helsinki. The agency works for international and domestic companies that represent technology, services and sustainable development. Their services include strategic communication, media relations, crisis communications, PR and events as well as branded content in Finnish, Swedish and English.
"We expect Euracsis connection to be an interesting opportunity for our Finnish clients who operate in the European market. Similarly, we look forward to participating in the EU-wide Euracsis campaigns," says Alpo Räinä, CEO of Mailand Communications.
Organisation of the ManagEnergy Annual Conference and Local Energy Action Awards Ceremony, Brussels 2011 by PRACSIS

Aimed at energy agencies, public authorities and energy actors with a local and regional focus, the ManagEnergy Annual Conference was held on 13 April in Brussels during the EU Sustainable Energy week. The Conference, as well as the annual ManagEnergy Local Action Awards Ceremony in presence of Commissioner Günther Oettinger, were organised by PRACSIS Brussels.

Media & Doradztwo organised animation days during the Biodiversity exhibition where giveaways were handed out. Activities included quiz, planting of honey plants, facebook and film projection.

Media & Doradztwo chose Cracow, Galeria Kraków Plaza – shopping centre with cinema and amusement park to install the Biodiversity Village. The cube was set on the ground floor in the centre of the gallery, at the fountain, opposite the main entrance.

Propaganda Consulting installed their Biodiversity exhibition in Piata Sfatului, the most touristic location in Brasov, where many events take place. The square is always crowded with locals and tourists, both Romanian and foreigners.

Constanta was chosen by Propaganda Consulting as it’s one of the biggest cities in Romania and also a popular Black Sea resort. There are lots of tourist attractions in Tomis Harbour, on the waterfront – the Casino, the Aquarium, the monument of Mihai Eminescu, the Genovese lighthouse, the Marine Headquarters.
